Working Group in Memory Studies

Please join us for the next in-person meeting of the Working Group in Memory Studies on Wednesday, December 10, from 2:00-3:30 pm in 348 Kaplan Hall.

This session will be dedicated to a discussion of gaming and memory. Visiting graduate researcher Sara Morini (Sapienza University, Rome) will help lead the discussion.

Our readings will be: Emil Lundedal Hammar, “Playing Virtual Jim Crow in Mafia III: Prosthetic Memory via Historical Digital Games and the Limits of Mass Culture” and T. Smethurst and S. Craps, “Playing with Trauma: Interactivity, Empathy, and Complicity in The Walking Dead Video Game.” Both essays are available in our usual Box folder. The Hammar essay can also be read online.
