DESCRIPTION:Book launch\, reading\, and discussion with Smokii Sumac\n\nJoin Ktunaxa poet Smokii Sumac as he reads from his second book of poetry\, Born Sacred: Poems for Palestine\, a journalistic poetry collection reflecting on Palestinian and Indigenous solidarities\, genocides\, life\, and liberation\, released earlier this year. \nRegister here to attend. \nSmokii Sumac is a Ktunaxa two spirit poet\, emerging playwright\, painter and Cultural Youth Worker. He has released two poetry collections and is working on a spoken word album forthcoming in early 2026. He is the author of 15 books\, including “Tyrant: Shakespeare on Politics”; “The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve”; “The Swerve: How the World Became Modern” (winner of the 2011 National Book Award and the 2012 Pulitzer Prize) and “Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare.” His newest book\, “Dark Renaissance: The Dangerous Times and Fatal Genius of Shakespeare’s Greatest Rival\,” focuses on the astonishing life and enduring legacy of Christopher Marlowe. \nHe is general editor of The Norton Anthology of English Literature and of The Norton Shakespeare\, has edited seven collections of criticism\, and is a founding coeditor of the journal Representations. He was named the 2016 Holberg Prize Laureate. His honors include the MLA’s James Russell Lowell Prize\, the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre\, two Guggenheim Fellowships and the Distinguished Humanist Award from the Mellon Foundation. \nHe was president of the Modern Language Association of America and has been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, the American Academy of Arts and Letters\, the American Philosophical Society\, the Italian literacy academy Accademia degli Arcadi\, and is a fellow of the British Academy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQUESTIONS FOR STEPHEN GREENBLATT CAN BE SUBMITTED HERE. \n\n\n\n\nSubmitted questions will be reviewed by the deans and moderator.
